All-breed and breed-specific rescues are a sad fact of life in today's quick-fix, disposable society. So many breeders are now on the scene that breed dogs without a regard for health, temperament, or what happens to the puppies after they go to their new homes. Breed specific rescues are able to take a small part of the burden off humane societies and shelters. However, these rescues need support to remain viable.

I am affiliated with a couple of rescues in the US States. I coordinate and support fundraising activities, as well as providing insight from a breeder's point of view when it is useful. In return, when I had a foster dog of my own, these rescues were very quick to support me with regard to medical bills. If you aren't sure if you're ready to bring a puppy into your life, please consider Cocker Spaniel Rescue. There are lots and lots of dogs out there whose only flaw was to stop being a cute puppy. If you are interested in Cocker Rescue, please take a look at the websites below, or contact me. I will gladly help you find the right dog for you.

Lucy is a 5 year old black female Cocker that was looking for the perfect home. She is very easy-going and well-behaved. She is housetrained and very sweet and loving. She was adopted by a couple with another Cocker and 2 cats, and she is very happy and spoiled now!

Taffy was my first attempt at fostering a rescue dog.  In March 2007 I got an email from a lady at the Lloydminster SPCA, asking if there was anybody in Alberta that could take this poor, blind Cocker in as a rescue.  I took the challenge.

Taffy was stinky, ungroomed and pretty scared . . . but that didn't last long.
I got her all cleaned up, taught her about living life as a spoiled dog, and got her housetrained.  Taffy was spayed and fully vetted, thanks to support from Cockers in Need and other anonymous donors.

Thanks to everybody that gave this girl a fighting chance!
Very good family friends of ours came over for supper one night, met Taffy, and decided to try having her stay with them.  After just 2 weeks, they decided that she was the dog for them.  She is now being loved and spoiled by Rick and Karen, and I get to see her often.
